Industrial Engineering Internship Experience Website

“Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It’s coming up with ideas, testing principles and perfecting the engineering as well as final assembly."
- James Dyson

May 2019 - March 2020

During this internship I kept a detailed website of everything I did and learned. It is linked below for more information on the internship. A summary of the entire internship can be found on the final report page.

Ice Cream Scooper Failure Analysis

Found a zero cost solution which saved the company hundreds of dollars a year

April 2018 - May 2018

This investigation was done in my strength of materials course by my team and I. For the project we created a story of the store being sued because a metal piece of the ice cream scooper breaking off of the scooper and being served to a customer. Then to deal with the lawsuit the store was bringing us in to investigate if that was possible with the way the scooper breaks. As a group we discovered why the ice cream scoopers were breaking and if a metal shard breaking off was even possible.
Though after the project ended I used our calculations to find a way to reduce the amount of ice cream scooper breakage. My solution was to change the way the ice-cream scooper was being held. This change was to hold the ice cream scooper closer to the bowl of the scooper rather then the end of the shaft. This new way of holding the scooper made such a noticeable difference in preventing ice cream scooper breakage that it has become the official way employees are trained to hold the scooper. It is estimated to have saved the store $600 a year on broken scoopers.

Capstone Project

Ice Bag Making Process Improvement

January 2019 - May 2020

At Elizabethtown college there is both junior and senior project. Junior project is about finding a project idea, completing research, and presenting the idea to the engineering department. Senior project is about making the idea come to life and presenting it.
My team's idea was to improve the ice bags and the ice bag making process for student athletes while making it more eco-friendly.  This is done by dividing the project into two different parts: the ice bag press and the ice bag sleeves. The ice bag press will be used to make the physical ice bags. Then the ice bag sleeve will be used to attach the ice bag to the sore area of the athlete instead of using large amounts of plastic wrap.

Ramayana: Film Adaptation Variation

This is a paper comparing various film adaptations of the Hindu religious text, the Ramayana with the written version. In this paper I broke down the Ramayana text into elements that were used to score the film versions faithfulness to the text. Each element was given a ranking on how well the film portrayed it and the results were tallied up at the end to create a quantitative score for each film analized.
